Several years ago when I was looking to purchase a portable ice maker to make our family outings and backyard a lot for entertaining, I decided to purchase a portable ice maker.

My Top Portable Ice Makers Prices and Buyers Guide

There were so many different models available that it made my head spin trying to figure out which one would be best for my home. After dragging my feet a lot, I finally purchased the EFIC115 SS as my portable ice maker of choice.

The EFIC115 Portable Ice Maker is available in different brands. I own the Igloo ICE115 SS; I have seen it listed as Frigidaire and Curtis. No matter which brand is listed on the front of the unit, they’re the same portable ice maker, with the same features.

In this article, you’re going to find my full review of the EFIC115, why I decided to purchase this ice maker, and what I love and don’t love about the unit.

The Features of the EFIC115

This portable ice maker is large. It weighs 40 pounds, so it’s not easy to carry around. Its dimensions are 19 x 16.5 x 18.5 inches, so it’s bulky and takes up a lot of space. The large capacity and ice production is what convinced me to purchase the EFIC115.

The EFIC115 has light indicators on the front of the ice maker. These indicators are useful for telling you when the ice maker is full of ice, and when you need more water.

I found that this ice maker is pretty quick to produce bullet ice. It takes about 8-9 minutes the first time it makes ice, and then about 7 minutes on average after that. You have 3 ice sizes to choose from, and depending on which size you choose, it affects how long it takes to produce ice. The EFIC115 SS produces 12 bullet-shaped pieces of ice at one time.

The NewAir Countertop Nugget Ice Maker Review

The removable tray makes it really easy to clean the ice maker. I normally carry it over to my sink and drain all the water using the drain plug. I use a small brush to wipe down all the places that I cannot reach and rinse it with fresh water. Because this ice maker is so large, it’s simple to keep clean, and the ice it produces tastes great.

Design of the EFIC115

The model that I purchased was the EFIC115 SS. The SS stands for “stainless steel.” The ice maker is built with high-quality stainless steel, a plastic lid, and a nice size viewing window.

The controls are nicely placed on the front of the ice maker for easy operation. It also has handles on the sides of the ice maker, which makes it easier to transport.

I took this ice maker on our tent trailer, and loved the idea of producing my own ice and not always having to purchase bags of ice. Even though this ice maker is heavy, I just found a place in the tent trailer to set it up, and that’s where it stayed the whole week. It saved us lots of money!

I found the ice maker to be very large, and it does take up a lot of room. During the summer, we normally have it sitting on the floor in our dining room.

I will also take it outside during BBQ’s and gatherings, so that everyone can grab ice on demand. Because this ice maker produces so much ice each day, we never have to worry about running low or out.

The EFIC115 is at tremendous value. This ice maker produces so much ice at one time, that it’s hard to imagine it costing less than $250, but it is.

There are three things that make this ice maker such a great value.

  • It’s large capacity and ice production
  • It’s high-quality design
  • It’s price

One of the reasons I purchase this ice maker is because it’s was such a great deal. I have been using this ice maker for almost 3 years, continually every day, and it is still going strong.

I guess I can honestly say that this ice maker has treated me well for the last 3 years, producing hundreds of pounds of ice for my family, friends and myself.

I recommend this portable ice maker.

When I went looking for a portable ice maker that wasn’t too expensive, produced a lot of ice and was built with high-quality materials – the EFIC115 was the one that I choose.

    • To be honest, portable ice makers are not built to be repaired. They are priced to be replaced when they break, unfortunately.
