If you have ever been to Chick-Fil-A or a Sonic Drive-Tru, then you know what kind of ice I am talking about. It’s often called “the good ice” because of its soft texture.

There are only two portable ice makers that produce this type of ice, the GE Profile Opal Nugget Ice Maker, and this NewAir Countertop Nugget Ice Maker.

The ice maker is wrapped in stainless steel and has one single button that operates the entire unit.

Once you turn on the ice maker, it takes about 5 minutes before it starts to produce nugget ice (fastest nugget ice maker on the market). You’ll see a flow of water running into the ice maker until it gets cold enough to begin producing nugget ice, then it’s a constant flow of ice until the basket is full or the unit runs out of water.

This unit weighs 34 pounds, so it’s not the lightest portable ice maker on the market.

It looks fabulous, has a really nice feel, and look to it. The unit itself is very slim in its form (10 inches), and I found that it fit nicely on my countertop, measuring 16.50″ D x 10.60″ W x 16.30″ H (w/feet). If you want to place it under your cabinets, remember that you will have to open the lid at the top, which will probably be another 10 inches. 

The storage bin will hold just shy of 5 pounds of ice, which is a considerable amount. We found that you’ll want to fill your glass full of nugget ice, so that you can enjoy the flavor after your beverage is complete. 

The ice was excellent, and my kids kept filling their glasses with it and chewing it all day. 

Because nugget ice is so small, that you can get so much ice in a single glass. I noticed that my beverage was almost instantly cold, which was a pleasant surprise. 

Overall, this is a great ice maker, and it’s well worth the investment for a countertop nugget ice maker. Years ago, the only way to enjoy nugget ice at home was by purchasing a commercial nugget ice maker, but now with this unit, you can have nugget ice for a fraction of the cost.

2. NewAir AI-100S Countertop Ice Maker

Style meets production! The NewAir AI-100S comes in seven colors, so it’s going to fit the decor of any kitchen.

This ice maker isn’t just a pretty face, it produces 28 pounds of ice each day, has a thick insulated storage bin, produces ice in only 10 minutes, has BPA-free materials, and with only two buttons – operation is a snap. 

It produces bullet-shaped ice. It’s versatile ice that can be used for so many different occasions. This ice maker also provides ice in three different sizes: small, medium, and large. The small pieces of ice are perfect for fitting in a water bottle or beverage, and the large pieces of ice are great for your cooler.

We found that this ice maker was sleek and fit into our kitchen decor. We found that it was small enough to fit wherever we wanted it to be. 

The NewAir AI-100S was simple to set up and provided enough ice for our family. If you are looking for an ice maker that produces enough ice for large gatherings, this isn’t the ice maker. 

I found that this ice maker was quiet and did what it was supposed to do. It weighs 24 pounds, so it’s feasible to carry this unit from place to place or use it on an RV or camping trip.

3. NewAir AI-215SS Countertop Ice Maker

This portable ice maker is a beast of a unit. It produces 50 pounds of bullet-shaped ice each day – which means you’ll never have to go to the store and purchase ice again. It makes ice in only 7 minutes. 

It has an insulated storage bin that keeps your ice frozen for a longer time, has BPA-free parts, and a self-cleaning feature to ensure that you always have fresh, clean ice. 

This powerful portable ice maker will produce ice in only 6 minutes. The simple-to-operate controls on the front of the unit give you the ability to create three ice sizes.

I thought that this was a sharp-looking ice maker. It comes in two colors: stainless steel and red.

The best feature of this ice maker is its enormous production ability. We were able to produce enough ice for a large gathering by emptying the ice into a cooler all day; our beverages were always chilled using the ice from this unit. 

This ice maker is heavier than the other portable ice makers on this list, weighing 36 pounds, which means you won’t want to carry it much. 

 Overall, a great portable ice maker that produces enough ice for most occasions. 

4. The Luma Comfort Clear Portable Ice Maker (IM200SS & IM200W)

The next portable ice maker that we want to review is the Luma Comfort portable ice maker from NewAir.

This portable ice maker produces 28 pounds of ice daily, but it’s not cloudy or white ice. The Luma Comfort delivers clear, restaurant-quality ice.

We found that both the IM200SS and IM200W are attractive units and produce amazingly fresh, clear ice. 

Why is clear ice better? First of all, it looks great. Clear ice has a really sophisticated look in any beverage. But it’s more than just looks; clear ice melts slower than white ice because it doesn’t contain any air bubbles.

This means that your beverage chills faster and longer, and you don’t have to worry about watering down your drink.

The unit is simple to operate. It gives you low water and full ice indicators, and it’s going to produce ice in 15 minutes. I know! 15 minutes is longer than the other ice makers listed, but that’s the price you pay for clear ice.

On the top of the ice maker’s lid, you’ll see push-button controls, and it’s LED display makes it simple to use. 

At the end of the day, what kind of ice are you looking for? If you want clear ice, then we suggest you purchase this NewAir ice maker.

5. NewAir ClearIce40 Countertop Ice Maker

The next NewAir ice maker we want to review is very similar to the one above. It also produces clear ice with a few differences. 

First, the ClearIce40, as its name reveals, makes 40 pounds of clear ice each day. Clear ice is often used for cocktails, scotch, soda, and other beverages and has been known to taste better, melt slower, and generates less fizz.

Second, the design of this unit is different than the previous. It comes with a lighter stainless steel and wider frame. This ice maker produces the clear ice faster than the Luma Comfort, making ice in only 7 minutes.

I guess it’s safe to say that the ClearIce40 and the Luma Comfort are great ice makers, but choosing which one to purchase depends on how much ice you need. 

In my opinion, more ice is always better. 

6. NewAir NIM033BK00 Portable Countertop Ice Maker

This modern-looking portable ice maker isn’t just a pretty face. 

It makes 33 pounds of ice each day, which is perfect for any entertaining event.

The NewAir NIM033 also produces ice in only 8 minutes, so you don’t have to wait long before you get great ice for your beverage. 

You can choose between small and large ice sizes, and setting up and operating the ice maker was easy. 

We really liked that this ice maker was light and easy to carry from place to place.

We used it on a recent camping trip and loved how easy it was to move from our trailer to the house. It’s less than 20 pounds, which makes it one of the lightest portable ice makers on the market, but it produces a good amount of ice each day. 

I believe you’re going to love this stylish ice maker. I believe this is a great choice for those that need to transport their ice maker steadily. A recent camping trip, your RV, or on your boat, this ice maker was made for this type of situation.

7. NewAir AI-250W Countertop Ice Maker

The last NewAir portable ice maker we want to review is the AI-250W, a small, compact ice maker producing 50 pounds of ice each day.

The design is different than all the other portable ice makers on the market – we found it refreshing. 

My motto has always been, the more ice, the better! And this ice maker delivers on both quality and quantity. 

One feature that surprised us, was its massive ice production, and it only weighs 21 pounds. This means that you can bring this ice maker on your RV or camping trip, and it’s going to keep your cooler stocked with ice during your complete stay. 

I can’t tell you how much money we have saved over the years because we have always made our ice during camping excursions.
