Heated clothing might sound strange, but it’s all the rage. Heated apparel is regular outdoor clothes with heated elements mounted inside gloves, pants, coats, and vests that keep you warm in the coldest of temperatures. These clothing options are perfect for outdoor sports like skiing, winter biking, and hiking. They are also great for people working outside during the cold, winter months.
It makes sense to me, and when I first heard of heated apparel, I thought it was a neat idea – but would it make a difference? That’s what I set out to find out.
I reached out to a company called ORORO and asked if they would send me some of their best products to test out so that I could share the results with all of you. They agreed to send me their jacket, work pants, and buffalo gloves, and in this article, I’ll detail my thoughts on the ORORO products I tried out, and heated apparel in general.

ORORO Wear Features and Products
My focus in this article will be on the three products that I received for this review. I’ll break down all their features and my thoughts as I test them out.
I will also keep this article updated, as I continue to use their products and test out new ORORO products.

ORORO Classic Jacket
I received ORORO’s Classic Heated Jacket. It has FELLEX® insulation, which makes it super warm and comfortable to wear. The jacket has a detachable hood, advanced carbon fiber heating elements, and four heating zones (left and right front pockets, the back, and collar). It also provides up to 10 hours of run time and it’s machine washable.
This jacket isn’t made for a lot of rain or moisture. Its water-resistant fabrics, not water-proof, will keep you dry and protect you from the wind, but it did get a little heavy as water soaked in.
This jacket offers a lot of room for your belongings with a zipper chest pocket, two zipper hand pockets, and an inside pocket for the battery. I didn’t lack any room for my stuff, that’s for sure.
The jacket is very comfortable and the fleece lining is so soft. I found that it was a little short for me. I am just under six feet tall and normally wear a large jacket, but this jacket came just to my waist (which is what it says on their website, so be sure to read their sizing). I found that it was riding up when I was active. This allowed snow to get under the jacket which wasn’t nice. Just be aware that this isn’t designed to be a long jacket and is not the best for activities with a lot of snow.
The heated elements begin to work almost instantly, especially on my back. There are three heat settings for this coat – high (red), medium (white) and low (blue). To turn on the coat, hold the button for three seconds; the same is true to turn it off. The battery that’s included is a 7.4V battery, which gives you the power to heat your jacket quickly and even charge your phone. The battery is fully charged in 4 hours. You just hold the button for three seconds and the jacket will turn on, and then press for the setting you prefer.
The jacket itself is made from high-quality material. The zippers are YKK, and the outer shell is 90% Polyester and 10% Spandex. The filling is 100% Polyester (FELLEX® Insulation), and the lining is 100% Polyester.
I have to say, this jacket held up to everything that I threw at it. I shoveled outside in the snow, went sledding with my daughter, and rolled around in the snow. It got heavier as water soaked in but kept me warm. I was impressed with the quality of this jacket and found it was warm even without the heating feature. If it was just a little longer, it would be perfect.
Overall, the classic jacket from ORORO is great. I found it both breathable and comfortable. The jacket heated up quickly, and it was warm for several hours.
The battery lasted for around 2-3 hours on high, but it didn’t take long to charge after it died. I found that the best setting for me was medium which lasted for about 5-6 hours. Using it on high made it too warm, so keeping it on the medium setting was the perfect temperature for me.
I really enjoyed wearing this jacket.
Men’s ORORO Heated Work Pants
Having a nice pair of work pants is always a good idea. Work pants have to be rugged, and ready for anything, and that’s what I found the ORORO work pants offered.
The ORORO work pants have a water-resistant shell and are super comfortable and stretchy. I didn’t feel confined wearing these work pants and felt free to stretch and move around.
These work pants also felt very warm with three carbon fiber heating elements. The battery that’s used to heat these work pants is their 5K battery which keeps them warm for around 10 hours.
The pants themselves had a very durable design, and with eight pockets, there was always room for all my things (2 side pockets, 1 right side zipper pocket, 1 left side battery zipper pocket, 2 large velcro side pockets, 2 velcro back pockets).
Let’s talk about comfort for a moment. These work pants are very comfortable. I love the elastic waistband, and velcro leg straps for keeping the pants tight against my boots. You can also add a belt if you choose to, these work pants have belt loops for style. The waist has a snap button and a regular button to keep your pants secure, and I absolutely love the style and color.
These pants have three heat settings, high (red), medium (white), and low (blue). You just hold in the button for three seconds and then section your preferred setting.
These work pants are comfortable, practical, and stylish. I have no complaints at all, I enjoyed wearing them and put them through several tests. I’ll also remind you that these work pants are made from premium materials like their YKK zippers.
I not only worked in them all day, but also biked, went sledding, and went on a hike, and these heated pants didn’t disappoint. They were comfortable to wear and kept me warm.

Men’s ORORO Buffalo Gloves 2.0
Probably the most important and popular heated apparel item is gloves. Gloves keep your hands warm, and having heated elements in your gloves, just makes sense. Nothing ruins a day in the snow and cold like numb fingers. Heated gloves solve that issue.
The Buffalo Gloves 2.0 from ORORO are very comfortable to wear, and I love that they are designed to be long and fit nicely over my jacket. The pull string at the base is also a nice touch which ensures no snow can get inside the gloves.
The gloves themselves are made with a 100% polyester shell and are both water and wind-resistant. The pointer finger and thumb give you the ability to use a phone with touch screen capability though I found it difficult to navigate my phone wearing these gloves. I just found that the fingers were too large and the ends were too stiff.
You can feel the battery at the base of the gloves, and it does give it a bulky feeling, but it’s not terrible. The palm of the glove has a grip design, and there is a strap around the center of the gloves to ensure that they are tight.
The button for controlling the heat is on the top of the gloves and it’s really easy to operate. You hold the button down for three seconds and then select your preferred heat setting – high (red), medium (white), and low (blue).
The gloves are both stylish and very comfortable. There were times that I didn’t even need the heat on, as the gloves were warm by themselves. They did get heavy over time as the water seemed to soak in, but they still stayed very warm.
I put these gloves to the test as well and they finished strong. I found that they were of great quality, and designed to be very comfortable. I enjoyed wearing them outside during a snowstorm when I had to shovel the driveway, not only did they keep me warm and the quality held up, but they are the sharpest pair of gloves that I’ve ever owned.
Should You Purchase Heated Apparel?
If you’re considering purchasing heated apparel then there are some things that you should know. I enjoyed wearing the heated gloves, pants, and jacket, and there is no doubt that it keeps you warm, but I don’t think that heated apparel is for everyone, in all situations.
The first negative in having heated apparel is making sure you keep the battery charged. It’s the battery that provides the power to make heat, and if you forget to charge that battery, then you’re out of luck.
There were a couple of times I wanted to go for a walk with the heated apparel and forgot to charge the battery. At that point, it’s just regular apparel. Now, with the ORORO products you still get warm, comfortable winter clothes even if you don’t use the battery, so that’s a plus.

You’ll also want to make sure that you keep all of the chargers in one place. It’s frustrating when you can’t find the charger to charge the batteries, so keeping them in one place is a great idea and will save you some frustration down the road. This happened to me once when I couldn’t find the charger for the gloves. I looked everywhere and finally just gave up. They did show up later and that’s when I decided to find a place to store them. It would be easy for batteries and cords to get lost over time.
Lastly, if you’re just outside for a few moments then using heated apparel doesn’t make sense. The effort of charging the batteries and getting everything set up isn’t worth it if you’re just stepping outside for a moment or two.
Just stepping outside to get in the car to drive to work, doesn’t justify buying heated apparel. I think if you’re going winter camping, skiing, sledding with your kids, or hiking – that makes sense to me. Make sure you’ll be outside for an extended time before investing in heated apparel.
So, what are the reasons I love using heated clothing? I love the warmth. My wife is a teacher and had to stand outside during a pretty cold day at school. She decided to wear my heated work pants to test them out. She said that the difference was huge and that all the teachers wanted to know where to buy the ORORO work pants.
I loved being able to charge my phone while going on a hike during the winter. Not only does heated apparel keep you warm, but it’s also practical. Not all heated apparel offers this feature, but I know that ORORO does. Using the heated apparel I knew that my phone would always have a charge. Heated apparel like ORORO is perfect for hiking or camping. Never have a dead phone again on that long hike which is also important for staying safe.
Not all heated apparel is equal. You want to make sure that it’s both comfortable and good quality. Anytime you’re using a battery, you want to make sure that it’s designed right.

Does Heated Apparel Work?
Yes. Heated apparel does exactly what you’d expect it to do. It heats elements throughout your clothing and keeps you toasty warm during the coldest temperatures.
ORORO heated apparel is not only heated clothing but high-quality outside wear that’s very comfortable to wear.
One thing with heated apparel is your body gets accustomed to the temperature, and after a while, you don’t even notice that it’s on. Yet, you feel nice and warm and it allows you to enjoy any outside activity more. You may have to turn that jacket, gloves, or pants down because you find it’s too hot.
It does take time to charge the batteries and install the batteries in your clothing, but if you’re outside for aby extended time, then having heated apparel is a great way to stay warm.
