If you haven’t heard of Giggles: it’s a new healthier skittle by a company called YUM EARTH. What sets Giggles apart from the Skittles brand, is that they don’t come with as much baggage. These small chewy candies are organic, vegan, gluten-free, and non-GMO.
These candies are also made with simple ingredients like cane sugar, organic rice syrup, and organic flavors. But it’s what’s not in the Giggles that has people talking: no peanuts, gluten, tree nuts, milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, soy, and sesame. Also, No high fructose corn syrup or artificial dyes. So, these candies are healthier than most candies on the market.
Of course, these healthy clewable candies have a much higher price tag than your original Skittles. But those who want a healthier alternative is also willing to pay the extra money to get them.
Giggles are much better for you, but Skittles taste like the rainbow, and that’s hard to beat. I purchased some Giggles and Skittles to see who will win the war for the rainbow flavor king.

A Simple Taste Test
There is one major difference between Skittles and Giggles and that’s the pop of flavor you get when you eat a Skittle. Right when you chew a Skittle that fruity flavor explodes, but that flavor isn’t good for you.
I gave my son a Giggle and Skittle and asked him to tell me which was which. He ate a Giggle candy and said that it was a Skittle, but as soon as he had the Skittle, he knew that he had made a mistake. The Skittle simply has more flavor.
The flavor in the Giggles is more subtle.
I’m not saying that Giggles aren’t good, I’m just saying that they are different. Also, the looks of the Giggles are noticeable as well.
The colors aren’t as bright and the shapes are all irregular.
Plus, you’re missing the signature “s” on each one. Maybe Giggles should place a “g” on each piece of candy to present their own branding.
Both the Giggles and the Skittles deliver a nice chewy texture, and both make a nice candy snack. If you’re looking for a more healthy alternative to the mighty Skittle, then a bag of Giggles might do the trick.
Freeze-Dried Skittles and Giggles
Everyone goes crazy for freeze-dried Skittles, but I wanted to see how Giggles responded to being freeze-dried, and I was shocked by the results.
Skittles blew apart like they normally do. The insides find their way outside, and they look very much like an object ball in the classic pool game.
The texture of freeze-dried Skittles just breaks apart in your mouth and becomes almost a power. The taste is intensified by 500%, and you don’t need many freeze-dried Skittles to get your fill.
When it comes to freeze-dried Giggles, I was actually shocked and disappointed.
They really didn’t respond well to being freeze-dried.
They kinda have the same texture as Skittles but become almost hard. I’m not sure what makes Skittles so light and airy, but it’s not the same with Giggles.
I would much rather have a freeze-dried Skittle than a freeze-dried Giggle when it comes to the flavor and texture.
My Conclusion
Though Giggle Candies may advertise as a better Skittle, they are a different candy. Giggles don’t have that intensity of flavor or shape of a Skittle. Yet, there is one thing that Giggles have that a Skittle can’t brag about – Giggles are actually better for you and your kids. Nothing artificial in a Giggle, and that’s a good thing.
Just don’t try to freeze dry these chewy treats because they don’t do well. They basically stay the same or get harder, and don’t deliver on texture and taste.
For those looking for a substitute for tasting the rainbow, maybe a Giggle will do or maybe they won’t. You can give them a try yourself and see what you think.
