The Sentern Portable Ice Maker isn’t like the other portable ice makers that are on the market today. Most portable ice makers produce bullet-shaped ice that’s cloudy or milky in color.

The Sentern Portable Ice Maker produces actual cubes of ice, and they are crystal clear.
Why do you need clear ice? Clear ice has an elegant look and melts slower than bullet ice because it has less air. This means that your ice will chill your beverage for longer. Read more about the different types of ice here.

In this post, I want to review the Sentern Portable Ice Make, and give you some reasons why you should consider purchasing this ice maker.
Features
This portable ice maker produces better quality ice. The ice cubes that this unit makes are restaurant-quality, clear ice cubes that are much harder and denser than other ice cubes. This means that when you place these cubes of ice into your beverage, it chills the drink and won’t melt quickly and water it down.
Here are some quick specs on the Sentern portable ice maker:
- Makes Ice in 15-20 Minutes
- Stores 2.4 Pounds of Ice at One Time
- Has a 2.2 Litre Water Reservoir
- Makes 3 Ice Sizes
- Easy to Set-Up
If you are an ice or drink enthusiast than you’re going to love the quality of ice the Sentern Portable Ice Maker produces.
This ice maker will produce ice in as little as 15 minutes. It also has a large storage bin for storing your ice, which is about 2.4 pounds of ice.
With this unit you’re going to be able to produce 48 pounds of ice every 24 hours – that’s fantastic!
This gives you plenty of ice for any occasion or the ability to make some pretty amazing ice beverages during the summer months.

This ice maker gives you the option of making three ice sizes. You can produce small, medium, or large cubes of ice.
The unit is equipped with a 2.2 L water reservoir, which is a good size for a portable ice maker. Like all portable ice makers, it’s ready to use out of the box. You don’t have to hire anyone to come and install any drains or waterlines – it’s simple to set up and easy to operate.
Just fill your water reservoir with some water (fill a pitcher of water and pour it into the unit), and then plug it in and begin the ice cycle. It’s that easy!
Design
This ice maker comes with an attractive stainless-steel design that makes fitting it into the decor of your home easy.
The unit itself measures 11.2 x 14.4 x 13.8 inches, so it’s pretty compact compared to other ice makers that produce clear ice cubes.
It’s not the smallest portable ice maker available on the market today, but it’s still portable. If you are planning on using this unit for your RV or camping – I would suggest that you purchase a smaller unit that is much easier to handle and transport.
I recommend the hOmeLabs Portable Ice Maker that is not only priced perfectly, but is also designed smaller and easy to move around. You can read more about which ice maker you should purchase for your RV or camping trip below.

Not only is this ice maker designed well externally, but it is also designed well internally, which gives you peace of mind that it’s going to last a long time.
One of the great design features inside this ice maker is the exhaust fan. It’s a high-speed fan which circulates air from inside the unit to the outside consistently and quickly.
This keeps your unit cool and ensures it’s safe operation at all times.
Cons
This is a great unit, but there are some downsides that you need to know before you purchase it.
Remember that this portable ice maker doesn’t make the standard bullet-shaped ice like other portable ice makers. Because of this, this ice maker is a little slow producing ice.
It takes about 15-30 minutes to make a batch of clear ice using this unit (Depending on the size), while other units only take about 6 minutes to produce bullet-shaped ice. That’s a big difference!
Below is a small chart that I created to give you an idea of how long it takes to create ice from an ice maker that produces bullet-shaped ice.
If speed is important to you then you should select the fastest ice maker in the chart below.

The second negative that I noticed with this portable ice maker is that because this unit produces clear ice cubes, often the ice will stick together and before I could use the ice, I would have to break it up.
This isn’t something terrible, and after a while you get used to it, but it is something to be aware of before you buy.
Don’t get me wrong; this is a fantastic ice maker. It’s one of the only countertop ice makers that make clear ice. It also produces 48 pounds of ice every day, which is a significant amount of ice.
Conclusion
We like this ice maker.
It was easy to set up, and the digital LED controls make managing and operating the ice maker simple.
I have had several people purchase this ice maker and love it! The design, function, and operation of this ice maker seem to be great.
If you are looking for clear ice cubes and don’t want to invest thousands of dollars into a commercial unit, then this is the ice maker for you.

does it keep ice frozen?
No. This ice maker has an insulated ice bin, but the ice will eventually melt and drip back into the water reservoir. If you are looking for an ice maker that keeps your ice frozen then take a look at the article here.
Can I use regular tap water? Or does it have to be special water?
You can use regular water if you don’t have extremely hard water. You may have to descale your unit if you begin to see hard water deposits.
Any idea on the power drain on this unit? I go through three 10-pound bags of store-bought ice a week (about $28 a month – hate the cloudy ice from my fridge’s icemaker), and wonder if I’ll save money in the long run switching to a solution like this. Not having to make an ice run every few days would certainly be an advantage as well.
The difference in energy charges would be pretty small. We don’t notice a difference on our electric bill at all and it’s running all of the time. Having your own ice maker, and having the ability to make ice on demand is a real game changer.
Does this run on 110V or 220V? I live in Luxembourg.
It’s 110V
How wide is the unit?
The product dimensions are 11.2×14.4×13.8 inches
Does this ice maker recycle the melted ice water?
Yes. It does.
The Sentern ice maker doesn’t seem to be available on Amazon or anywhere else I have found. Do you know if it will be back sometime soon?
We are not given that type of information. I can say that the NewAir Clear40 is a nice alternative. You can read more about it on NewAir.com here.
