Purchasing and installing a home security system can be expensive.
It’s not uncommon to spend upwards of $2000 on cameras, an alarm system, and all the odds and ends. The good news is you don’t have to spend that much money on a security system these days!
When I heard about eufy, and all of the security equipment that they have available, I had to test it out for myself and see if it was a viable option for my home.
I jumped online and purchased the eufy Floodlight Cam 2 that shoots video up to 2K and has a bunch of really cool settings and options. The price seemed to be reasonable and within a few days, it arrived at my doorstep. I was really excited to get it installed and tested.

I was replacing a very old floodlight on the front of my house, so I was pretty thrilled to have the ability to not only have a brighter LED light but a fully functioning security camera as well.
After using it for only a couple of days, I think that every home should purchase one. That’s right, I loved it that much.
I’m going to get into more details in this article.
Installation
Installing the eufy Floodlight was actually really easy. If basic electrical scares you, you don’t need to fret about it. Just ensure that the power is disconnected and connect white to white, and black to black. The green ground wire will be connected to the box with the provided bracket.
You add the bracket to your electrical box, attach the ground wire, place the floodlight and then add the mounting screw to the middle – that’s all there is to it. Eufy also gives you a hook so that you can connect it to the box while you’re connecting the wires.
It should take you about 10-20 minutes to install if there are no surprises when you take down your old light. If you come into trouble, you can always call an electrician for help.

Before you install the eufy Floodlight, plug it into a standard wall outlet (it comes wired to a plug) and connect it to the app on your smartphone. This makes sure everything is ready to go before installing it on your home.
On the app, click add device.
- 2K Video Quality
- No Monthly Fees
- 2500 Lumens
- 2 Way Voice
- Easy to install
- Motion Detection
- Can Have Connection Issues
You scan the barcode on the bottom of your eufy Floodlight and then walk through the setup process. It’s really easy to do. You’ll hold down the button on top of the camera until you hear a beep and then it will automatically connect the camera to your Bluetooth. You then enable the WIFI on the unit by selecting the wifi name and adding the password.
That’s about all there is to it. It took me about 10 minutes to have it up and running and another 10 minutes to have it installed on my home.
It’s really easy to do.
Features
Before we get into my experience with the eufy Floodlight Cam 2, I want to discuss some of the features that it offers. These features are the ones that caught my eye and are probably why you’re considering purchasing the eufy Floodlight Cam 2 for your home as well.
The features that I’m listing below are not a complete list of features but are the ones that I think it’s important to highlight.
2K Video Quality
This one is huge – 2K video quality. I have always lived by the motto, when it comes to electronics, to purchase the newest and best features that you can afford. The 2K is definitely an added bonus. The better quality a camera can offer you means more details of the surrounding area. When it comes to security, details are important.
I did find that the video while steaming had a small delay.

I have my eufy Floodlight Cam 2 installed over my garage and it’s still not super crisp when it comes to objects 15 feet from my house. So, having 2K is far better than the previous model of only 1080p.
If you’re sitting on the fence and wondering if you should purchase the eufy Floodlight Cam or the Floodlight Cam 2 – choose the 2K and get the Cam 2.
Local Storage
Companies like Ring offer excellent products, but you have to purchase a monthly subscription if you want to use the device to its full potential. This makes a $300 product even more expensive. If someone is not aware of the hidden costs from a company like Ring, they can be very frustrated when they begin to set everything up.
With the eufy Floodlight Cam 2, everything is stored locally, which ends up being cheaper than its competitors and safer than storing your videos on the cloud.
It’s nice knowing that you don’t have to spend more than what you originally paid for a product to get the full features. Hidden fees are the worst!
Extremely Bright LED Light
The eufy Floodlight offers a super bright 2,500 lumens motion-activated LED floodlight.
It’s amazing how bright this led light is, it really does put light on the situation.
Alarm
With a click of a button, you can enable a 100dB alarm that will spook those hanging around your home. I tested this alarm and it will really scare your neighbors.
Using the app, all you’ll have to do is click a button to enable it, and BANG! It’s going to blow your ears off.
Notifications
With the eufy app, you’ll get notifications and alerts right to your smartphone if anything suspicious is going on around your home. Not only will you get notified, but you’ll also see a thumbnail right on your notification screen of what you’re camera is warning you about. It’s easy to set up and convenient.
2-Way Audio
The eufy Floodlight Cam 2 has a mic so you can hear what’s happening around your home, and you can push a button and speak. This is great if someone is delivering something at your home and you need to give them directions.
Function
I installed the floodlight and now it was time to test it out. I spend a couple of days running through some tests, plus real-life testing of course, and this is what I noticed.
The app works well.
You’ll begin with the main screen that will show you every camera you have installed. Because I only have one camera (eufy Floodlight Cam 2), it gives you a small preview of the camera.

From this screen, you can turn on the light, see the notifications from the camera, put your notifications on snooze, and enter into the settings.
Inside the settings section you’ll find:
- Camera on or off
- Status LED on or off
- Auto night vision
- You can add a watermark
- You can change motion detection settings. You can change the motion detection zone and its sensitivity. You can also change detection type to all motions or just humans.
- You can change your light settings. You can enable sunset to sunrise where the light will turn on when it gets dark and then turn off in the morning. You can change the brightness settings for this as well. You can also turn off or on the motion detection light, and change the brightness. There is also a setting for the timer when the light turns off after motion detection has occured. The last setting is the brightness for using the manual light.
- You can also change the recording settings which includes the lengh, retrigger interval, and an option to end the clip early if motion stops.
- The video quality settings allows you to change the streaming quality and recording quality.
- You’ll also be able to change the notifications on your device. You can change notifications to most efficient, full effect or include thumbnails. You can also chnage the sound for each of the notifications.
- The storage options gives you the ability to clear your local and cloud based storage.
- Under settings you’ll also notice options for wifi, time settings, and restarting your device.
To dig into more settings and watch the streaming of the camera, just click on the play icon on the preview window.
Once you’re in the streaming section of the app, you can turn on the LED light, speak to those nearby, take a screenshot of the camera view, record the streaming to your phone, sound the alarm, and mute the sound during streaming.

There were a few times that my phone (while on LTE) could not connect to the camera. This can be frustrating, to say the least, but for the most part, it worked well.
The audio quality isn’t terrible, but it’s not the best quality audio. I find that the cars driving by sound like jets taking off, but the audio works and you can hear what’s going on outside. In fact, I am surprised at how much the mic picked up.
I found that the alerts and motion detection works well. I tested this at several distances and all of the notifications worked as expected. I tried to sneak by without being detected, but I couldn’t beat it. I was discovered every time which is a good thing.

I have my device set to 60-sec video clips with motion detection, and the device will record clips to the local SSD drive inside the camera, and then when it’s full will record over the oldest files. It works seamlessly and I’m pleased with its performance.
I haven’t really used the 2-way voice option, but it could come in handy in certain scenarios. The audio isn’t super clear, but you can make out what people are saying. I find that the audio has a small delay which can make it a little difficult.
Overall, I am pleased with the performance of the eufy Floodlight Cam 2.
Conclusion
I am super pleased with my eufy Floodlight Cam 2, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a more affordable home security camera and who doesn’t want to spend extra on monthly subscription fees. I would say that the eufy Floodlight Cam 2 is the best security camera available without any subscription or hidden fees.
The eufy Floodlight Cam 2 gives you all of the options and settings of its competitors with a high-quality security camera, all the bells and whistles, and no hidden costs.
