If you have a family blog, then I have some exciting news for you!
This is what I will discuss in this article:
There are actually several ways you can turn that family blog into a real income. It’s hard to say how much money your blog can make you, but it can be a viable source of income.
With blogging, it’s fun to tell your story to the world. I love that the internet has made the world so small. We can share our exciting experiences and speak about what we’ve discovered in life and all of it from our own homes.
Yet, if you do blogging correctly, you can not only help people but also help yourself. In fact, you can make a lot of money through that family blog, and in this article, I will tell you exactly how to do it.
If you would like a more complete training on how to build a blog, you can check out Affilorama for more information on making money online with a blog.
The next point will walk you through how to create a family blog using Blue Host.
Create a Blog
Creating a blog is where it all begins. If you don’t have a family blog already, you don’t have to worry because creating one is super easy.
To create a website, you’ll only have two expenses – web hosting and a domain name.
Click the link above, head over to Blue Host, and then click WordPress on the left, and a drop menu will appear. You’ll want to select WordPress Hosting, and you’ll get a great price, a FREE SSL certificate, and a free domain name for the first year. Blue Host offers a great price to begin your family project.
Next, you’ll want to install WordPress (which is free) and install a WordPress theme.
Setting Up Your Blog on Blue Host
After you select WordPress Hosting, you’ll want to choose a domain name. In my opinion, the .com are more recognizable and will be more valuable if you ever decide to sell the domain name.
Choose the one that best describes your blog.
Next, you checkout. There are going to be a lot offered extras with Blue Host, and this is why their price is listed so low. Only choose the ones you absolutely need. Your final price can go from $35 to $150 really quick, so just be careful.
Once you have your hosting purchased, you’ll want to jump into WordPress. The video below will walk you through the steps.
The theme that I use is called PopCorn. The PopCorn theme is an easy-to-use WordPress theme, which is super fast. It’s going to make a perfect theme for your family blog.
If you would rather not spend money on a theme at this point in the project, that’s fine. You can install a free theme in WordPress and reconsider this step later, maybe when our website is making a little money.
We will begin adding content to our site and driving traffic to our blog posts now that we have a website.
Drive Traffic to Your Blog
Driving traffic to your website is as easy as creating valuable, helpful content.
It’s easy to start writing about anything and everything, but if we want to drive traffic to our website, we need to write about topics people actually search.
How do we know what people are searching? We ask Google.
When you jump into Google, search for Google USA. This will show us the results and topics people are searching for in the USA.
Next, think of a topic in your head that you’d like to write about.
Let’s say we want to write a blog post about taking walks as a family. We use Google to examine if people are actually searching for family walks and what topics or questions they are researching.
I begin to type the phase and let Google autocomplete the rest.
Next, I click on those topics and see which websites are ranking for the #1 position and do those websites actually give a complete answer.
It’s important to find keywords or phrases that are low in competition so that your website can rank for the number one spot.
This is how you drive traffic to your website. You write content that people are interested in and drive those people to your family blog. Mix together your experiences and research to write a complete, helpful article, and then repeat the process over and over again.
There are other ways to drive traffic to your website, like creating a Youtube channel about your family and linking to your family blog, creating a Pinterest account, and pinning your articles for others to find.
Creating helpful content that people are looking for is the easiest way to create a blog that matters.
This isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme, but if you stick with it and have fun doing it, it will become a profitable income stream in time.
But how can you earn money? Well, the key is to build an audience. Once you’ve created an audience, then you’re able to promote products and earn commissions.
This is called . . .
Affiliate Marketing is promoting other companies’ products.
Several years ago, I decided that I was going to create an online business. At the time, essential oils were at their peak of popularity, so I decided to purchase a costly printer and package my own essential oils.
It was a lot of work with very little payback. I had to deal with customers, broken products, and returns – it wasn’t fun.
When I heard about affiliate marketing, I was excited for one reason – I didn’t have to deal with customers. All I had to do was promote the products that I found useful, and when someone clicked on that link and purchased a product – I got a commission. It was that simple.
I closed down my online eCommerce store and started to do affiliate marketing full-time. It was so much better. I made money, and the product owner dealt with returns, customer support, and angry customers.
Where are these products to promote? They’re everywhere.
Just type in the product you would like to promote in Google and add plus affiliate. For example, sheds + affiliate, and what do I find? A whole list of affiliate opportunities.
There are tons of affiliate platforms that you can choose from:
These are just a few examples, but there are tons more.
The less traffic you have, the more difficult it may be to get approved for these affiliate platforms, but as you grow your blog, you’ll add more and more affiliates.
I have earned thousands of dollars every year from affiliate marketing. I’ve promoted products that I love and earned commissions when someone clicked my link and purchased that product.
Affiliate marketing is also passive. This means you don’t have to babysit it every day, you just let it sit, and people can read your blog post, click on a link and purchase a product, and you earn a commission even when you’re sleeping.
If you already have a family blog, adding affiliate links is an excellent way of earning income from your website.
But affiliate marketing isn’t the only way to earn money with your family blog. In fact, the most effective way is to create an info product.
Info products are digital products that can be sold and delivered right away to your customer (no shipping). I mentioned above Clickbank, which is a marketplace filled with information products.
With an information product, you take what you know, package it together, and sell it online for a small price.
For example, I could have taken this information and sold it as an eBook, audio file, or created a video. If I had sold this product for only $5, and 1000 people purchased it, that would have made me $5000 from my blog. It’s possible; in fact, it happens every day.
Taking your family blog and using it as a platform to promote an information product is an excellent way of making money online.
The crazy thing is you don’t even need to create your own product. This returns to the affiliate marketing topic again, but you can just use a product from Clickbank and use their information product and promote on your website.
The last way of making money with your family blog is by ads.
Using a company like Ezoic will help you add premium ads to your site and turn traffic into income.
The people at Ezoic are excellent, and they will walk you through the necessary steps of getting your website all connected.
The amount of money you’ll make with ads depends on your traffic and your CPM, which is how much money you make per 1000 visits to your website.
Some websites can make $28 per 1000 visits, and if they get 50,000 visits per month, they can make $1400 in ad revenue. That’s a great way of making some extra money.
If you are looking to begin a family blog or already have an exciting one, then there is an opportunity for you to begin making an income.
It may not be significant at first, but it can snowball into a full-time income over time.
Here is something else to think about, these websites typically sell for 37-times their monthly income. I had a website that was making $1,000 a month, and its value was $37,000. That’s amazing! Your family blog can end up being your retirement plan.
Implement these simple ways to monetize your blog, and if you don’t have a family blog, then today would be an excellent day to begin one.
