Making homemade ice cream is a great way to spend quality time together with your family. The tools that are available to us today allow us to make homemade ice cream quickly and easily. You don’t have to purchase an expensive commercial ice cream maker to make ice cream anymore. Now you can create rich, creamy ice cream from home for a fraction of the cost.
One of the cheapest ways to make homemade ice cream is by using your KitchenAid. By purchasing the KitchenAid Ice Cream attachment, you can create ice cream without the extra price or storage of a separate portable ice cream machine.
In this article, I’ll review the KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Attachment and see if it’s worth the price.
The KitchenAid Ice Cream Attachment Features
The KitchenAid Ice Cream attachment allows you to make soft, creamy ice cream and other frozen desserts with your KitchenAid Mixer.

What’s included? You get the freezing bowl and the dasher. The freezing bowl attaches securely to your KitchenAid, and the dasher will rotate inside the bowl, forming the ice cream.
It goes without saying, that if you don’t have a KitchenAid Mixer, then this attachment isn’t going to work for you.
Let’s begin by looking at what this KitchenAid attachment offers you.
This frozen bowl contains your ice cream mix, while the dasher spreads, scrapes, and mixes the ice cream inside the bowl.
The KitchenAid attachment produces 1.9 quarts of ice cream, gelato, or sorbet in about 20-30 minutes. It’s a double-walled bowl with a freezing agent between the walls. The container has to be frozen overnight or for a minimum of 15 hours. You can give the bowl a shake to make sure that the liquid inside the container is completely frozen.
It’s simple to use. Just add your ice cream mixture to the bowl, attach the frozen bowl to your KitchenAid mixer, and turn it on. The dasher begins to spread the ice cream mixture inside the bowl, and it begins to form ice cream slowly.
You need to be aware that this ice cream bowl does not fit every KitchenAid mixer. Some tilt units may require an adapter ring which is sold separately.
My Review of the KitchenAid Ice Cream Attachment
First of all, if you own a KitchenAid, it only makes sense to purchase a attachement to make ice cream. It’s so easy to use. Place the freezing bowl in the freezer overnight.
Just attach the bowl to your KitchenAid Mixer when it’s frozen, and attach the dasher. Now you’re ready to go.
Pour in your ice cream mix, and then turn on the mixer to slow. Now you just have to wait until the ice cream thickens in about 20 to 25 minutes.
The ice cream was great. I was able to place it in a bowl and throw it in the freezer to harden more and then served it on fresh pie.
Delicious!
It only makes sense to save room in your kitchen, and purchase the KitchenAid Ice Cream attachment if you’re looking to make ice cream at home. I used it for several months, and it’s worked great for me. You just have to remmeber to but the freezing bowl in the freezer the night before.
KitchenAid Ice Cream Attachment Maintenance
Make sure that you wash the ice cream bowl only after it has thawed and only by hand with warm water and a mild detergent.
The dasher is dishwasher safe.
KitchenAid Ice Cream Attachment Recipe
Making ice cream with the KitchenAid Ice Cream attachment is simple to do. Just follow the directions below using this straightforward recipe.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Fridge: 2 – 24 hours
Ice Cream Maker Time: Approximately 25-30 minutes
Makes: 1 1/2 quarts
Servings: Ten 1/2 cup servings
Ingredients:
Blackberries 1 pint (2 cups) blackberries (fresh or frozen)
3/4 cup sugar
Ice Cream Base 3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup milk
2 cups heavy whipping cream
Add this ice cream mixture to your KitchenAid frozen bowl and turn on your machine. The KitchenAid will slowly begin to spread the ice cream mixture around in the frosted bowl, and ice cream will gradually start to form.
You can add other ingredients to the ice cream mixture if you wish.
Some cookie dough (only cookie dough that’s safe to eat) is fun to add and some chocolate chips, or you can add some blueberries and blackberries.
The choices are endless, and the sky is the limit.
What I Liked About the Ice KitchenAid Ice Cream Attachment
There are several features that I loved about this KitchenAid attachment.
It’s Easy to Store
I really loved that you only have to store the bowl and it should be placed in your freezer.
The KitchenAid Mixer is used for so many different tasks in the kitchen that it just makes sense that you would keep it on your countertop.
Most Ice cream makers for home use are bulky and require you to store an extra unit on your countertop or in your cupboard. The KitchenAid Ice Cream Bowl is easy to store and takes up very little room in your kitchen.
It Works Well
The KitchenAid Ice Cream Attachment works as advertised.
It makes lovely, delicious frozen treats in 20-30 minutes. I have no complaints about the quality of ice cream or the bowl itself.
It’s simple to set up and use.
Easy To Customize
There are so many different types of ice cream that you can maker with the KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker.
You can make nice diabetic ice cream, sugar-free ice cream, dairy-free ice cream or any of your favorites. Making your own frozen treats is awesome!
What I Didn’t Like About the KitchenAid Ice Cream Attachment
Here are some things that we were not crazy about with the KitchenAid Ice Cream Attachment.
Compatibility
I didn’t like that this attachment is not entirely universal.
You need to make sure that your KitchenAid will work individually with this attachment. They do have an adapter that is used to make this attachment more compatible with a wide range of KitchenAid Mixers, but this is just something to get lost in my opinion.
The KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Attachment will fit all KitchenAid Stand Mixers that were built after 1990. I wish it were as simple as all the mixers will work with this ice cream attachment, but this isn’t the case.
Just make sure if you have an older KitchenAid, that’s its compatible with this attachment.
Plastic Attachments
The KitchenAid Ice Cream attachment is high-quality, but I didn’t love the fact that the attachments are plastic.
Some people have complained that these attachments have broken or have worn out over time.
My Overall Assessment
I believe that the KitchenAid Ice Cream attachment is an excellent attachment for your KitchenAid Mixer.
It simple to use, it’s cheaper than most portable ice cream makers, and it saves you space in your kitchen.
It makes great ice cream! I enjoy making ice cream for our family nights, and the kids enjoy throwing in different yummy ingredients.
I believe that if you already own a KitchenAid mixer than the ice cream attachment should be your next purchase.

Hi Jerry, please update this to reflect all the problems that it has after a few months of storage or use. I’ve spent hours and multiple RMAs only to give up on it. It leaks and is well below the desired level of quality KitchenAid usually brings to the table. Kitchenaid has done little to help and their own site’s reviews on the product reflect this. I highly recommend you suggest another product that you know is more durable and reliable for long term use. Thanks.
